Makeup I actually LOVE + *sale* at Kiss & Makeup!
I’m going to cut right to the chase, here folks. My Vancouver friends at the gorgeous store Kiss & Makeup (cute name!) are having a sale on their site EXCLUSIVE TO STARK READERS! I know, how effing cool are they!? The answer is, very.
They carry some of the best of natural brands, including Stark (YAY!), Ilia, RMS, COOLA, Kahina, Tata Harper and Rahua, plus way too much gorgeous clothing and accessories (obsessed with Frye’s or Pendleton like I am? Here’s your chance!). No really, I go on their site and I get heart palpitations. They also have some non-natural or close-to-natural products that they’ve curated into their shop, like Stila, Becca and Fresh, in case you’re flexible about your natural-ness… they choose the best of the best, natural or not, so you can trust their expertise.
THUS, MY FRIEND, YOU NEED TO GET ON THIS ASAP! Use code: Stark10
to get 10% off anything in their store when you spend $100 July 12th until August 10th! ….oh, and FREE SHIPPING too! I know. This is awesome. Oh, and this is for Canada only…’cause sometimes we need some exclusive perks, know what I mean? Yeah, you do.
Alright…now about that makeup…. read on, below my giant head, for my mini review on my favourite makeup!
Full disclosure: I am not a huge fan of makeup (aside: It may be why I’m so crazy about skincare…it feels better and it’s got long-term benefits, ie, less makeup hopefully needed over time). Although lately I feel as though I really, really do need to wear a little (I’ve been really tired lately and very much “looking my age”. WONDER WHY.) but conventional makeup grosses me out and feels terrible. Plus, lots of it actually HURTS my skin physically, like most powders make me itch and want to scratch my skin right off. See? It’s a thing.
Anyhow, there are a few all-natural makeup brands who are not just great, but phenomenal. I for one, I am OBSESSED with Ilia. The ingredients aren’t merely clean, but are so pure and healthy that it’s safe to say that they are also skincare. Plus, Ilia is Canadian! I love creamy makeup that I can blend with my fingers, since I’m on on a finger-painting level of makeup-application expertise. This is a good thing. I love that I don’t end up with weird smears and can just dab, blend, dab, blend and gradually build up some colour and since the ingredients are so awesome in Ilia’s stuff, I don’t feel gross really working the product into my skin.
So, feast your eyes on this pristine list:
Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil*, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil*, Jojoba (Simmondsia Chinensis) Seed Oil*, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Beeswax (Cera Alba)*, Triisostearyl Citrate, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter*, Manihot Esculenta (Tapioca) Starch *, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Rosa Canina (Rose Hip) Fruit Oil, Sage (Salvia Officinalis) Leaf Extract, Tocopherol. May Contain: Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxide (CI 77499, CI 77492, CI 77491), Red 7 CI15850, Red 28 CI45410, Yellow 5 CI19140. Organic Ingredients. Ingrédients Certifiés Biologiques.
Right? I know. Shit’s cray. I’d eat this lipstick…because guess what? If you wear lipstick, you’re eating it. I didn’t need to tell you guys this, as you’re super-savvy about this kind of stuff, but still, hand over THIS tasty treat because I really don’t mind ingesting it after my face is done wearing it.
Also, I’m not wearing it in this pic but I’m also a BIG fan of RMS’s living luminizer. Yeah, the packaging it really great…always a bonus, but the texture and finish are fantastic. Rose-Mary Swift, the genius behind the label, bases all her products on skin-loving virgin coconut oil, which of course, we love. You don’t need much to get this sheer wash of LIGHT on your skin, without any insipid sparkles or anything that makes you look like you’re in highschool (if you ARE in highschool…well, sparkle-on. Get away with that while you can!) I just dab it in the corner of my eyes to make them pop and look more awake, since, as you can see, I naturally have kind of deep-set and dark eyes, so this tactic is a MUST for me. You can also sweep it acorss your cheek bones as a highlight. It’s a little pricey at $42, but totes worth it because, as I said, you need the smallest amount to get a very natural glow.
There you have it! Makeup that even a makeup-phobe can love!
